Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions for your wedding. The person you choose will be with you all day, shape how you remember the event, and produce something you will look at for the rest of your lives. Here are the ten questions that will help you make the right decision — and avoid costly mistakes.
1. Can I see complete wedding galleries — not just highlights?
Any photographer can assemble a beautiful highlight gallery. What matters is the full wedding — the 600 photographs from a complete day, not just the 30 best ones. Ask to see two or three complete wedding galleries before booking.
Look for: consistency across the full day, how they handle the mandap and indoor lighting, crowd situations, and quiet moments between functions.
2. How many photographers will be present?
A solo photographer cannot be in two places at once. During the pheras, the baraat, the vidaai — multiple things happen simultaneously. Ask how many photographers will be present and what their roles are.
For a large, multi-function wedding, a minimum of two photographers is strongly recommended.
3. What is the exact delivery timeline?
This separates professionals from casual shooters. A professional gives specific, contractual delivery commitments. Vague answers like "within a few months" are a serious red flag.
At Jharkhand Frames: teaser reel 48–72 hours, social reels 3–7 days, full edited gallery 20–30 days, cinematic wedding film 30–45 days.
4. What if you cannot make it on my wedding day?
Reputable photographers have a backup plan — a trusted colleague who can step in. Ask specifically: "What happens if you are unavailable on the day?"
If the answer is vague or unprepared, that is a concern. Your wedding has no reshoots.
5. How do you back up the photographs?
Memory cards fail. Laptops get stolen. Ask what backup protocol the photographer follows during and after the shoot.
Our standard: every camera shoots to dual memory cards simultaneously. All files are backed up to cloud the same night. Your photographs are never at risk.
6. What equipment do you use?
Listen for: professional-grade full-frame cameras, prime lenses for low-light capability, a second camera body as backup, and lighting for indoor and evening coverage.
At Jharkhand Frames, we shoot on Sony FX-series cinema bodies with G-Master prime lenses — designed for beautiful low-light performance in indoor ceremony settings.
7. Who owns the photographs and what can I do with them?
Ask specifically: Can you print freely? Share on social media? Are there any restrictions on usage?
A professional will give you clear written answers to these questions in their contract.
8. What is included and what costs extra?
Get the full list in writing. Common add-ons: album design, USB delivery, drone footage, same-day edit (SDE) reel, rush delivery, additional shooters, travel outside home city.
A reputable photographer gives you a written scope of work that specifies exactly what is included — with no surprises on the day or afterwards.
